HILS Won International Negotiation Competition |
From July 7 to July 11, sixteen law school teams from all over the world competed in the 2008 International Negotiation Competition held in London, England. The Handong International Law School team, representing South Korea, took first place honors. This win builds upon Handong's fourth place finish at the 2003 International Negotiation Competition in Dublin Ireland.
Handong International Law School was represented by third year law student, Shin Young Byun and second year law student, Su Youn Park. The team was coached by Professor Jae Chun Won who was a former New York City prosecutor.
The International Negotiation Competition began in 1998 and is organized by Creighton University School of Law. This is the first time in the 10 year history of the International Negotiation competition that a law school from Asia has taken first place.
The competition is a tournament of the top law school teams from around the world that are selected to represent their respective countries. The Handong team faced the National University of India, Edinburgh University (Scotland) and University Of Aarhus School Of Law (Denmark). After three rounds, the Handong team was ranked number one among all sixteen law schools at the competition. Other law schools at the competition included the University of Louisville, the winner of the United States national negotiation competition as well as the National University of Singapore, the University of Ottawa (Canada), and Doshisha University (Japan).
Past first place winners of the competition include Georgetown University (USA), the Inns of Court School of Law (London), and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). |
