Biography
이희언 원장은 2002년부터 국제법률대학원 교수로써 일하고 있으며 제4대 원장으로 취임했다.
국제법률대학원장 이희언 교수는 국제 공법 전문가이다. 그는 Asian Yearbook of International Law (Brill)의 공동 편집장이자 Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia (Brill)과 Encyclopedia of Ocean Law and Policy in Asia-Pacific (Brill)의 편집장이다. 그의 대표적인 출판물은 Oxford Handbook의 International Law in Asia and the Pacific (Oxford University Press, 2019)에 실린 "South Korea", The Making of International Law in Korea: From Colony to Asian Power (Brill/Nijhoff, 2016), 그리고 Northeast Asian Perspectives of International Law: Contemporary Issues and Challenges (Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, 2013)과 Dokdo: Historical Appraisal and International Justice (Martinus Nijhoff Publishers, 2011) 등이 있다.
이희언 교수는 Board of Directors of Advocates International와 Board of Governors for the Foundation for the Development of International Law in Asia에서 근무했다. 그는 에모리 대학의 Center for the Study of Law and Religion (2011)의 방문 연구원이었고 리젠트 대학의 Center for Global Justice (2018)의 방문 교수로 재직했다.
이희언 교수는 수많은 언론매체에 출연했으며 현재 아리랑 라디오의 “Good Morning Seoul”에서 국내외 주요 법적 이슈를 해설하는 주간 라디오 코너를 운영하고 있다. 그는 한국을 대표하는 영어방송인 아리랑 TV의 주간 뉴스 프로그램인 "The Point"의 진행자이기도 했다.
이희언 교수는 Vassar College에서 정치학과 아시아 연구에서 학사 학위 (A.B.)를 받았다. Syracuse University에서 우등으로 법학 학위 (J.D.)를 받았고 Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs에서 국제 관계 석사 학위 (M.A.)를 받았다. 또한 New York University School of Law에서 국제법학 석사 학위 (LL.M.)를 받았다.
