Since graduating from Handong International Law School in 2005, I have been working as a patent lawyer at Y.P. Lee, Mock and Partners, a law firm specializing in intellectual property law, including two years of experience in an IP financing company. In 2015, for the first time in the law firm’s thirty-year history, I became a partner as a foreign attorney.
At the beginning of my law school studies, I put all of my focus on being a patent expert who wanted to pair my law studies with my seven-year career as an electrical engineer. However, HILS awakened in me something more precious than just merely preparing to be an intellectual property lawyer.
HILS was founded upon a different set of principles than other law schools - beyond training students in the law, HILS has been teaching servant leadership and how to serve the world in line with Christian values. In this respect, I am very proud to have been and still be part of the HILS family.
When I arrived at HILS, I found that whenever people needed one another, there was always someone ready to lend comfort, empathy, and help, with compassion and God-loving hearts. In particular, the professors all worked tirelessly sacrificing so much to take care of students in the way they thought best - and for that I am so grateful. Although three years of law school can be a very challenging experience, my life at HILS was a time of abundant grace and gratitude.
