Bar Exam Access
Bar Exam Access
Handong International Law School's (HILS) Juris Doctor (JD) program prepares students for international legal practice by meeting the academic qualifications for taking U.S. bar exams. However, applicants should be aware that HILS is not accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). Consequently, HILS graduates must petition the board of bar examiners to be eligible to take a bar exam.

Through the HILS JD program and credits earned at its partner ABA-approved law school, HILS students have consistently met the academic qualifications for bar exams in several U.S. jurisdictions. Every graduate since 2004 has successfully qualified for a U.S. bar examination.

Please note that bar admission rules are established by each individual jurisdiction and are subject to change. While HILS is proud of its graduates' success, it does not guarantee that completing the JD program will ensure access to U.S. bar exams. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to research the specific bar admission requirements for their intended practice jurisdiction. Additionally, since bar exams are administered in the United States, students must be eligible for the appropriate visa or visa waiver program to continue the bar admission process in the United States after graduation.

HILS is committed to supporting its students. For any questions regarding the program of study or bar exam eligibility, please contact the admissions office.
